Hurricane Sandy – Breezy Point 2012, sometimes even heroes are helpless to stop the total destruction from a storm. This first responder community went up in smoke despite enormous amounts of water and sand from the storm. This is a drip-cloth piece that unlike the the others had no imagery in mind when it went on the frame. It was being stitched at the same time as the whole tragedy was unfolding on the news and this is just what came out of my head and through my machine. All natural dyes harvested from my yard creates a stormy image of a dragon approaching from the land and churning waves and sea monster emerging from the waters and the house, who as not chance, goes up in flames.
Unlike most of my other work this one has no embelishments other than thread sketching to help you see what I see.
